Since there are various sophisticated electronic components in the display screen, most of these electronic components are easily corroded by water and cause malfunction. Therefore, no matter where the application scenario is, the waterproof function of the display screen is what every user will pay attention to. When customers mention waterproofing, we must first understand which part of the display screen the customer is talking about, and then provide the correct solution.

For products with touch screens, since the cover material on the front of the touch screen itself has a waterproof function, when mentioning the waterproof function of touch products, it is generally the waterproofing of the back. The waterproofing of the back of the display screen depends on the customer's housing. We mainly consider the sealing of the cover and the customer's housing, and the sealing of the interface between the touch screen and the display screen.

The touch screen cover assembly on the customer's product needs to be waterproof. This requirement is very common, and customers usually have specific data requirements for sealing, such as IP rating, which grades the ability of the housing to resist dust or liquid intrusion. In this case, we only need to choose the right 3M double-sided adhesive to achieve the ideal waterproof effect.

Waterproofing is required between the display screen and the touch screen. Although some of our touch screens are bonded to the display screen with optically clear adhesive (OCA), the sensor part is still exposed. Therefore, RTV sealant is needed to seal the periphery of the bond between the touch screen and the TFT (Thin Film Transistor) display.

Waterproofing of Touch Screen Function:

In some cases, customers may use the touch screen in an environment where water droplets are present. In this case, the touch screen should be able to work properly even with water droplets (ensuring normal touch function in the presence of water and preventing accidental touch due to water droplets falling). In this case, it is necessary to choose a suitable IC for better water or salt water stability.

Waterproofing of PCB:

Sometimes, customers require PCBs to be waterproof. In this case, the solution usually includes adding a layer of conformal coating (also known as conformal coating) to the PCB. This coating is a transparent polymer film applied to the PCB that maintains the shape of the printed circuit board while protecting the electronic components from environmental damage. This process enhances and prolongs their usability.

Definition of protection level:

IP level: The IP (Ingress Protection) protection level system was drafted by IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) to classify electrical appliances according to their dust and moisture resistance characteristics. The IP protection level is composed of two numbers. The first number indicates the level of dust and foreign object protection of the appliance (foreign objects here include tools, human fingers, etc., which cannot touch the live parts of the appliance to avoid electric shock). The second number indicates the degree of airtightness of the appliance against moisture and water intrusion. The larger the number, the higher the protection level.
